Here at Strive, our passion is to lower the barriers to entry into the legal profession. We believe that one of the best ways to do it is to ensure that everyone has access to the tips and inspiration they need on their way towards securing a training contract at a commercial law firm.

In our quest to democratise knowledge surrounding the elusive application process, we’re building an ever-greater catalogue of content to help you achieve your dreams: your background doesn’t matter one bit, all you need is an internet connection!

Launching in December 2018 (could you ask for a better Christmas present?!), #StriveSpeaks is the first podcast that aims to inform and inspire aspiring trainee solicitors.

We pride ourselves by how actionable our tips are: no waffling, no pretence, just straight-talking, quality content you can listen to on the tube or in the gym (or even before you sleep, if you decide we’re really boring after all).

On those dreary days when you feel that all hope is lost and you want to give up on your long and winding TC journey (the hosts are both ex-TC hunters after all - oh how we know that struggle!), we want nothing more than you walking away after each episode feeling a renewed spring in your step, excited again by your hunt and motivated by a sense of sureness that you’ve now got more knowledge and techniques to go get ‘em.

We’re so determined to make sure you get maximum value out of us taking 30-or-so minutes of your time that we create handy handouts which accompany the podcasts as a visual aid in order to summarise key take-home points that you can put into action, right away when you draft your next application or do your next assessment centre.

The proof is in the pudding - come hang out with us and let us know what you think!

We’re not the type to write a blog post for the sake of writing one.

We write only when there’s something to write about. From our experience with the hundreds of candidates we have seen, we distil the very best for your eyes only - concisely.

PRACTICE: the most important things you can do to ensure you’re fully prepared for your Assessment Centres, Interviews or Aptitude Tests.

We know that training materials that are specific to commercial law either simply do not exist on the internet, or are inhibitively expensive. Trust us on this - we remember our days of digging through the internet to find very minimal (or not very good) free, high-quality practice material that’s field-specific to commercial law!

As part of our mission to lower the barriers to entry for commercial law, we will be putting up training materials we’ve developed in the course of working one-on-one with our students. Watch this space for more as we continually put up more materials! Please contact us if you have any specific suggestions.

Commercial Case Studies

Case Studies are often used by firms to test your commercial acumen. Don’t worry - they are designed to maintain a level playing field between law and non-law students, so you won’t have to cram your contract law textbook to get this. In fact, one of the main reasons law students may perform badly on these exercises is because they are overly legalistic, and not sufficiently commercial or practical.

You may like to download a Case Study to practise and test your skills before attending your Assessment Centre!

#StriveInsider is no ordinary newsletter. We’ll only send you stuff when there’s actually stuff to say. So go on, subscribe. Or we’ll be sad.

We’ve also covered some of the most commonly asked questions in our emails, such as:

  • How should I structure my covering letter when applying for a vacation scheme or a training contract?

  • What can I expect from a partner-led interview?

  • Should I request feedback after an unsuccessful interview?

  • I have a vacation scheme – how should I prepare and what should I expect?

  • I am on a Student Tier 4 visa – how does the visa situation work when I start a training contract?

  • How shall I prepare for commercial awareness questions?

  • What if I have extenuating circumstances?
